CLASS DESCRIPTION - BRING ON THE BOBBIN

Learn how to use your bobbin to stitch bold, decorative designs and patterns. Students will make a small sampler of programmed utility and decorative stitches as well as free motion designs (see sample on p. 68 in Threadplay with Libby Lehman, reprinted and revised 2006 by Quilters' Resource Inc.)

This is a great way to get a couched look in half the time! Students must have a sewing machine with a removable bobbin case or know how to adjust their bobbin tension in the machine.

SUPPLY LIST

___Zigzag sewing machine with the ability to adjust bobbin tension. Yes, it is worth bringing your best machine!

___Multi-plug and long extension cord

___Embroidery and darning presser feet

___Small screwdriver for adjusting bobbin tension

___Extra bobbin case (optional but highly desirable)

___80/12 Microtex, Universal or #75/11 Quilting needles (choose one of these)

___90/14 Topstitch needles

___Scissors

___Rotary cutter, 18” Plexiglas ruler, and cutting mat.

___Pencil

___Fine line permanent marker

___Small sack for trash

___Tape to attach sack to table

FABRIC

___10” square dark cotton for testing tension and stitches

___1/2 yd. dark cotton, solid or small-scale tone-on-tone print

___10” square of Craft-Fuse, an iron-on fusible interfacing (not fusible web)*

___2/3 yd. Craft-Fuse, a heavy weight white non-woven fusible interfacing (not fusible web)*

*If you prefer, a $5 kit with the Craft-Fuse and the design pre-drawn will be available in class

Needed to complete the project but not for class

___1/4 yd, fabric for binding

___1/4 yd. fabric for sashing (optional)

___1/2 yd. for backing

THREADS

___Cotton sewing thread to match your decorative bobbin threads

___Spool of variegated Perle Crown Rayon or an assortment of medium weight decorative threads. Suggested brands: Décor, Razzle-Dazzle, Designer 6, Candlelight, and Glamour, size 5 or 8 perle cotton.

• Bernina sewing machine for use by the Instructor
