CIRCLE THIS

Making this small sampler will have you going in circles with fun and new skills! Learn how to do reverse appliqué, thread painting, satin stitching, decorative stitching, couching and free motion quilting. You’ll be an expert in no time!

SUPPLY LIST

___Sewing machine with at least a zig-zag stitch, including manual, power cord and foot pedal
___open toe embroidery or appliqué foot ( Bernina #20, 20C, 39 or 39C)
___free motion foot ( Bernina #9, 15, 24, 29, 29C or the BSR)
___#80/12 Microtex or Jeans/Denim needle, or #75/11 Quilting needle (choose one, you won’t need them all)
___#80/12 Topstitch or Cordonnet needle
___extension cord
___16” square of all cotton batting
___16” square of medium- to heavyweight stabilizer
___16” freezer paper (approx)
___6” or 8” wooden machine embroidery hoop
___12” ruler

FABRICS:

___14” square of a dark solid or very subtle print cotton
___16” square of cotton fabric for back
___two 6” squares of bright cotton (blue and yellow in picture)
___18” of your favorite trim to couch (yellow lines in sample)

THREADS:

___bobbin/lingerie thread to match dark fabric (Bottom Line by Superior is my favorite)
___two decorative polyesters in the same color, one lighter and one darker. These will be used for the shaded circle.
___decorative threads you want to use. In the sample, I used solid and variegated polyester decorative threads by Superior and Mettler, but you can also use rayon or cotton threads.
___Monofilament for couching (I like Superior MonoPoly or Sulky Invisible)

OPTIONAL:

___Threadplay with Libby Lehman (reprinted by Quilter’s Resource, Inc in 2006)
___circular attachment for your machine (very helpful)
